Dane Fadul shapea prancha em Itacaré

Poseidon retorna a Itacaré em Abril e filma a fabricação de mais uma prancha de surfe. “Em nossa primeira visita conseguimos gravar apenas a entrevista com o shaper Dane Fadul e com o pioneiro do surfe em Itacaré Ronaldo Fadul. Então foi preciso retornar para filmar o trabalho do shaper e para adquirir mais uma prancha que será leiloada durante o lançamento do filme.” A idéia do diretor do documentário Felipe Grossi é leiloar as pranchas encomendadas durante a produção do filme além de todo o material utilizado para pesquisa sobre a fabricação de pranchas, como livros, revistas e filmes. “Quero arrecadar dinheiro para doar para uma instituição que cuide de crianças com câncer.” Diz o diretor do filme.

A fabricação de um foguete 5’10” com rabeta swallow e wings foi o modelo escolhido por Dane para surfar as ondas de Itacaré, que tem swells regulares graças ao encurtamento da plataforma continental na região.

A segunda visita a Itacaré da dimensão nacional ao filme que agora retrata a fabricação de pranchas por shapers em todas as três regiões que compõe o litoral Brasileiro, respectivamente, Sudeste com Cláudio Pastor, Sul com Avelino Bastos e Nordeste com Dane Fadul.

Poseidon visits Tropical Brasil

Navigating to the south into Brazil, Sofitel Florianopolis’s architectural feature was remarkable within documentary Surf Board: design in evolution. The magnificent view of the Avenida Beira Mar is not for everyone, either in the mornings or late afternoons notable. It was a shame not to celebrate the end of shooting at El Divino Club, the loneliness was such that the bed and a good chicken soup seemed much more friendly than a furtive go for the Ballad.

Soon I came to Sunderland I was so possible to visit the Tropical Brazil and see if I could score an interview with the shaper Avelino Bastos. The factory Tropical Florianopolis has a different look than the factories had already visited, but even though it was my second visit I soon realized that professionalism and organization were words that were part of the dictionary.

I was palpitating toward the receptionist and then asked if I could talk to Avelino. A few moments on the phone and I was pleasantly surprised to have found him at work. Two cups of coffee later returned to the hotel with a scheduled date for an interview the feeling was more convinced that the status of my documentary was not a flop.

But as we all know the sweet taste of victory is short lived. After postponing the interview for almost a month left me insecure and frustrated. But like a good guest agreed with all requirements and have honored my daily at the hotel. More bed, TV and chicken soup. Ah! But I was surprised by the morning presentation of The Terminator and a surreal break to eat sushi.
Honored with the Daily and the new date for the interview arriving I went to Sao Paulo for a few nights and bought my ticket to Floripa. I rented a car at the airport and I went back to Sofitel, but this time with a cool in the belly and no hotel reservation.

After that much emotion I began recording at Tropical Brazil. I recorded two interviews and a lot of good images.

Poseidon grava entrevista com Avelino Bastos

Navegando mais ao sul do Brasil a característica arquitetônica do Sofitel Florianópolis foi marcante no documentário Surf Board: design em evolução. A vista maravilhosa da Avenida Beira Mar é para todos os gostos, seja nas manhãs ou no cair da tarde. Foi pena não poder festejar o fim das gravações no El Divino Clube, a solidão era tamanha que a cama e uma boa canja de galinha me pareciam muito mais amistosas do que uma saída furtiva para a Balada.

Logo que cheguei a Floripa fui assim que possível visitar a Tropical Brasil e ver se conseguiria marcar a entrevista com o shaper Avelino Bastos. A fábrica da Tropical em Florianópolis tem um visual diferente das fábricas que já tinha visitado, mas mesmo sendo minha segunda visita logo notei que profissionalismo e organização eram palavras que faziam parte do dicionário.

Fui palpitando em direção a recepcionista e logo perguntei se poderia falar com o Avelino. Alguns instantes no telefone e tive a agradável surpresa de tê-lo encontrado no trabalho. Duas xícaras de café depois retornei ao hotel com uma data agendada o sentimento de havia convencido mais um cidadão de que meu documentário não era um flop.

Mas, como todos sabemos o doce sabor da vitória dura pouco. E na manhã seguinte um adiamento de quase um mês me deixou inseguro e frustrado. Mas como um bom hóspede concordei com todos os requisitos e honrei minhas diárias no hotel. Mais cama, TV e canja de galinha. Ah! Mas fui surpreendido pela matutina apresentação do Exterminador do futuro e de um surreal intervalo para comer sushi.

Honradas as diárias e com a proximidade da nova data da entrevista parti para São Paulo de carro onde fiquei por algumas noites e de véspera comprei meu bilhete para Floripa. Aluguei um pálio no aeroporto e parti novamente para o Sofitel, mas dessa vez com um frio na barriga e nenhuma reserva de hotel.

Como dizia o Rei, foram muitas emoções, e começaram as gravações na Tropical Brasil. Gravei duas entrevistas e muitas boas imagens da fabricação de uma prancha azulzinha.

Claudio Pastor shapea prancha Hobie Vintage

A Poseidon retornou ao Rio de Janeiro logo após o Carnaval e mesmo com a chuva e o vendaval que até fechou a ponte Rio Niterói por 40 minutos as filmagens foram concluídas.

Nesta visita ao Rio gravamos a fabricação de uma prancha Hobie Vintage shapeada pelo Cláudio Pastor. “Nem acreditei quando soube da possibilidade de filmar a fabricação de uma Hobie.” Afirma o diretor do documentário Surf Board.

As filmagens no Rio de Janeiro marcaram o início do calendário de 2010 da Poseidon.

Resume

Visiting Rio de Janeiro Poseidon outlines plans to resume production of the documentary Surf Board. Marking the month of November with interviews with Custódio Neto, Claudio Pastor and Irencyr Beltrão the documentary is taking shape and preparing for a new phase.

"Reading the magazine Fluir I could notice that the surfboards are undergoing major changes", explains the director of the documentary. There were rumors that a competition would be created parallel to the ASP, but what was really decided is that the number of competitors decreases from 45 to 32.

The ASP has been doing a benchmark with ATP and PGA and there will be changes in the WCT which is now named ASP World Tour.

All things considered Poseidon decided to extend the production of documentary Surf Board: the art of making surfboards by 2010 so that changes in the Tour and surfboards will be incorporated.

Retomada

Após uma visita ao Rio de Janeiro a Poseidon traça os planos para retomar a produção do Documentário Surf Board. Marcando o mês de Novembro com entrevistas com Custódio Netto, Cláudio Pastor e Irencyr Beltrão o documentário vai tomando forma e se prepara para uma nova fase.

“Lendo a revista Fluir pude ver que as pranchas de surfe atuais estão sofrendo grandes mudanças”; explica o diretor do documentário. Houve boatos de que seria criada uma competição paralela à ASP, mas o que ficou realmente decidido é que o número de competidores diminui de 45 para 32.

A ASP esteve fazendo um benchmark com o ATP e o PGA e haverá mudanças no WCT que passa a se chamar ASP World Tour.

Considerando todos os fatores a Poseidon decidiu estender a produção do documentário Surf Board: a arte de fazer pranchas de surfe até 2010 de forma que as mudanças no Tour e nas pranchas de surfe serão incorporadas.

Starting Production

Ahead with the documentary Surf Board: the art of shaping, Poseidon berths in Imbituba interviewing two influential surfers. Back on track after receiving his luggage Kelly Slater wins the Brazilian Bernardo Miranda to see his spot in the final quarter, talking about his 10 years experience in ASP World Tour, Kelly talked about the changes that affected his surfboards during the years that pledged his 9 world titles. Great contrast achieved by the director of the Documentary Phil Rash who decided to interview the youngest surfer in the competition, the Frenchman Jeremy Flores, 20 years. "It's amazing how Jeremy knows the importance of the shaper in a surfer’s life. Being so young he already understands that a shape can be magical and change the surfers life."

Today the competition was canceled, but tomorrow the head of production expects to record unique images with a 600mm telelens. "We had problems with the lens. Unfortunately we could not define precisely the distance between the waves and the beach. Fortunately, Universo Imagens and TAM Express did a great job and brought us another lens in record time.

The team also began filming the first of the 4 surfboards to be shaped during the production of the documentary. The shaper Roberto Paiva showed that the craft shape is really unique and has all the characteristics of a high performance surfboard.

This documentary will really show the surf culture, art and lots of fun.
